Jijivisha means an intense desire to live and to continue living to the fullest in the highest sense of being. This is an important word for all of us in this time and this generation. All life must be treasured. Every life matters.
In this beautiful world, animals have as much right to live, as human beings. It is our world, and, it is their world too. So, do we have the right to confine, or kill any animal who is aware she exists, and, who plainly wants to live? People often ask if animals should have rights, and quite simply, the answer is “Yes!”
Animals are sentient beings like us. They have their own needs, desires, and interests. Their lives have intrinsic value - they are not inferior, nor just here as resources or tools for human use. Discriminating non-human animals, or believing that they are inferior, solely because they belong to a different species, is speciesism. This discrimination is as unscientific and unjust as racial profile or sexism. Animals have the right to be free of oppression, confinement, and abuse by humans.
Animals cannot speak for themselves, therefore, we need to protect them. Protecting them is something we should take pride in; it is our responsibility.
